BRIEF HISTORY
It was on the beginning of the school year 2009-2010 when the Sta.Catalina Sangguniang Bayan, with the support of Mayor Ruben Melodia, Cawitan's Brgy. Council, Secondary Principals/School Heads and the DepEd Division of Negros Oriental, pushed through the initiative of opening high schools in different barangays of the municipality. Cawitan was one of the very suitable locations for a new high school considering its population to be catered and accessiblity.
At first, Leleth G. Donday was the only teacher assigned to the school and later on Jeremy Alan J. Pedeglorio was added as a teacher aide back then. While the FilChi Building was still under construction in the donated one-hectare lot of Don Antonio Carballo Sr., Mr. Reynaldo Y. Saga, the Principal of Cawitan Elementary School, offered an area in their campus for a makeshift room to be built. On December of 2009, Cawitan High School was formally inaugurated and Mr. Roselier Cadeliña was installed as TIC. Early the following year, both Mrs. Donday and Mr. Pedeglorio were transferred to Sta.Catalina Science HS.
Teachers "come and go" in Cawitan High School and it was like a feeling out process as the school slowly develops in its larva stage. Among those who were assigned briefly in the school were Mr. Abell R. Mamigo, Ariel Belnas, John Martin Caño, Mary Grace Casilang, Rene Febrada, Maisie Susan, Gencor Gabuan, Mr. Bebelone, Marty Ponsica and Josephine Guad.
Four years later from its birth, as the pioneering batch was on their graduating year, Mr. Merben A. Zerna was assigned as school head together with the "comeback" of Mr. Jeremy Pedeglorio. From then on, the school has been recipient of new school buildings and facilities from the National and Local Government. Later on, it was set that the school will offer senior high school too.
Presently, the school is headed by Mrs. Nohrie Jay E. Biñas with eleven faculty members and a population of 498 students.
